Why We Like It

This is a great way to recycle bits and pieces of egg cartons, cardboard, straw, twine, and paper. There isn't any set way to make this enrichment, so it can be adapted for use with lots of different animals and can be made with whatever you have laying around.

Materials
  • Egg carton

  • Twine

  • Straw, shredded paper, wood wool, newspaper, or other "filling"

  • Recycled bits and pieces to thread on the twine

How to Make It
  1. Poke holes through the bits and pieces you'd like to thread on the twine ( i.e. cardboard bits, puzzle pieces, dried pasta, etc) and thread them on the twine.

  2. Cut the egg carton in half and poke one hole through the top of the carton and one hole directly below it through the bottom of the carton. Thread both on the twine.

  3. Finish threading the remainder of the miscellaneous bits and pieces on the twine and tie the twine at the bottom

  4. Fill the egg carton with substrate and treats

  5. Hang up in a place where there is no risk of entanglement
