Why We Like It

Hollowed out bamboo is already natural, so you don't have to disguise it in any way if you're required to use natural enrichment on exhibit. Animals can roll the bamboo on the ground, pull browse and other food items out of it, and chew on the bamboo itself.

Materials
  • Sticks of bamboo (diameter and length is up to you)

  • Fine-toothed hand saw

  • Hole saw with drill

How to Make It
  1. Cut the piece of bamboo to your desired length (a fine-toothed hand saw will work best)

  2. Hollow out the entire length of your bamboo. You can read some tips on doing so here

  3. Use a hole saw to drill holes in a line down the length of the bamboo. The number of holes you drill and their spacing is entirely up to you.

  4. Stuff the bamboo with browse, fruits, veggies and other goodies. For a more difficult challenge, you can spread smearable foods like peanut butter and honey on the inside of the bamboo.
