Why We Like It
This is a neat naturalistic enrichment item that can be made with found objects and tailored for use with a variety of smaller animals. Choose a rodent-safe wood like untreated poplar and a variety of fruit tree branches for a fun chewing experience, or maple/oak/ash to make a maze for a snake.
Materials
Animal-safe wood board (do your research before choosing wood!)
Animal-safe branches
Saw
Sandpaper
Flat head wood screws
Drill/driver
How to Make It
Sand your wood board. Mark where you'd like to place your branch "stumps"
Cut your animal-safe wood branch into pieces. Sand them to remove sharp edges
Use your drill to drill pilot holes on the marks you made in step 1. Also drill pilot holes into each of your branch pieces.
Secure the branch pieces to the wood board by lining each branch piece up with a pilot hole on the board and attaching them with a flat head screw (the screws will be on the underside of the board)
