Why We Like It
This is a very simple and inexpensive enrichment for tool-using primates. You can mount the trays vertically or attach them to a surface just outside of the enclosure. Change up the ingredients to preserve novelty!
Materials
Dollar store kid's sectioned plates
Smearable foods
Sticks
Options for mounting (we use aligator clips and a bucket with a brick inside)--clip plate to the lip of the bucket and put a bring inside so they can't move the bucket
How to Make It
Smear foods in each section of the plate (optional: freeze plate)
Secure to a stable object outside of the primate enclosure
Demonstrate how to "fish" using a long stick, and then give it to the primate to try out
